Helen Tracy Loman, 94, of Fredericksburg, Texas, went home to be with her Lord Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
Born July 27, 1930, at the home of her maternal grandparents, Samuel and Ida Smith Moore, in Hosterman, she was a daughter of the late Glenn Parker Tracy and Vera “Bly” Moore Tracy.
Helen and her sister, Marian, grew up on the Tracy farm and attended Kerr Memorial Methodist Church in Boyer. She was active in youth activities and 4-H and attended Green Bank School High School where she was an excellent student and played trumpet in the band.
Helen met her first husband, John Jones, while both were attending West Virginia University. They had two children, John Stephen and Jina Ramona.
The couple lived in Baltimore, Maryland, and Shrew-sbury, New Jersey, where Helen mastered her cooking skills and perfected her family’s favorite – Aunt Helen’s peanut butter fudge – and her Pillsbury Bake-Off award winning Banana Bread recipe.
When Helen and Marian’s families were young, they spent many summer vacations at Ocean City renting a house or camping.
After Helen and John divorced, she met and married George Loman. Following George’s retirement from Bell Labs, they returned to Pocahontas County and built a beautiful passive solar home on part of the Tracy farm in Boyer.
From there they traveled throughout Europe and Asia, but all roads returned them to West Virginia where they remained neighbors with Helen’s parents until they passed.
After George died, Helen remained in their home for several years enjoying the sunsets until it became too difficult to live alone. She then moved to Heartlands, an assisted living community in Annapolis, Maryland, to be near her daughter, Jina. When her daughter and husband retired and moved to Comfort, Texas, Helen transferred to Heritage Place, a nearby assisted living facility, where she remained until her passing.
She is survived by her son, John Stephen Jones, and partner, Donna Wendel, of Key West, Florida; daughter, Jina Ramona Eckhardt, and husband, John, of Comfort, Texas; granddaughter, Jessica Jones, of Auburn, Alabama; sister, Marian Tracy Bittle, of LaVale, Maryland; niece, Lisa Tancredi; and nephews, David and Mark Bittle.
The family would like to thank Phyliss Mick, of Durbin, for her friendship and help during Helen’s later years in Boyer.
