Emmette Ray Biggs, age 94, of Crawley, died Sunday, May 21, 2017, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Ronceverte. He had lived with his daughter, Jane Jones, and husband, Steve.
Born September 29, 1922, at Marlinton, he was a son of the late James Riley and Effie Annbell Meadows Biggs.
Emmette worked for the Marlinton Tannery, and when it closed, he worked for Hanover Shoe Company as a heel and sole cutter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Juanita Carr, Kathleen Vandevender and Betty Crislip; and seven brothers, Carlile Biggs, William Biggs, James Biggs, Richard Biggs, Dorsey Biggs, Jack Biggs and Harold Biggs.
He is survived by his daughters, Kay Arbogast, and husband, Jim, of Sandy Lake, Pennsylvania, Kathy Cain, and husband, Dennis, of Buckeye, Ann Goldizen, and husband, Paul, of Marlinton, and Jane Jones, and husband, Steve, of Crawley; a sister, Dot Cutlip, and husband, Harold, of Buckeye; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends Friday, May 26, from 6 to 9 p.m. at VanReenen Funeral Home in Marlinton. Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 27, 1 p.m. at VanReenen Funeral Home with Rev. Fred Goldizen officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Marlinton.
