Elizabeth Zane Martin, age 79, of Huntersville, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea, following a short illness.
Born July 17, 1937, at Mountain Grove, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Noah and Selma Ferren Smith Alderman.
Elizabeth was a homemaker and attended First Baptist Church Huntersville; and read her Bible everyday and trusted the Lord. She was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. She attended Greenbrier Community College for two years.
She loved gardening and trees, and could see the beauty in nature and people. She would often draw or paint the beauty she saw. Elizabeth loved taking pictures of her family, having them pose for her. She was talented and creative in many areas, including sewing, knitting and crocheting.
Elizabeth loved her family and always tried to help when she could. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Charles Alderman, Robert Alderman, James Alderman, Bill Alderman and Morris Alderman.
She is survived by five daughters, Heather VanSice, of Radcliff, Kentucky, Cathy Parker, of Huntersville, Trudy Zornow, of Bosie, Idaho, Sabrina Johnson, of Sherman, Texas, and Suzie Martin, of Covington, Virginia; three sons, George Martin, II, of Crestview, Florida, Shawn Martin, of Braxton, Georgia, and Brian Martin, of Marlinton; 28 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lorraine Alderman, of Jackson, Montana, Abby Smith, of Salamca, New York, Mary Alice Turley, of Texas, and Lottie Alderman Revis, of Cragisville, Virginia; and two brothers, Donald McPherson, of Spenser, Virginia, and Douglas McPherson, of Richmond, Virginia.
The family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers, love and comfort they received.
Funeral service April 30 at VanReenen Funeral Home with Pastor David McCall officiating. Interment was in the Alderman Cemetery on Douthards Creek.
