Doris Annette Henderson, age 64, of Ft. Washington, Maryland, passed away Monday, June 16, 2014, following a brief illness.
Born February 24, 1950, in Middlesboro, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Dorothy G. Buchanan and Thomas E. Henderson.
Doris was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C., where she served as Elder and Clerk of the Session. She was also active in the Westminster music program as an alto and guitarist.
She was active in local Clan Henderson Society and was recently awarded the Chief’s Order by the Clan Chief for her work providing music and support to Clan events.
She was a long-time employee of Giant Foods, having worked in several administrative positions. She was devoted to her dog, Rae, and enjoyed planting and photographing flowers in her yard.
Doris was a 1968 graduate of Green Bank High School, received her BA in Art in 1972 from St. Andrews Presbyterian College, and a Master’s Degree in 1974 from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, Virginia.She was the author of several unpublished young adult fantasy novels.
She is survived by two brothers, David and John; a sister-in-law, Susan; nephew, Daniel; and niece, Sarah.
Memorial service is Thursday, June 26, 7 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 400 l St. SW, Washington, D.C.
