The latest piece of public art is located on Ninth Street in Marlinton, and was painted by Kelson Thorn, of Petersburg. The mural was the brainchild of Pocahontas County Arts Council member Peggy Owens, who gave Thorn a basic idea of what she wanted and he brought it to life with vivid colors. The mural was funded by the PCAC through grants provided by the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History under the direction of Randall Reed-Smith. The grants were for Youth Engagement Through Public Art and a STEAM Power Grant. This is just the beginning for new art in Marlinton. Owens reported that the PCAC has received a 9/11 Day of Service Grant which will fund a mural honoring local servicemen and women. Photo courtesy of Kelson Thorn
