The Pocahontas County Board of Education met Monday night and held a short, yet productive meeting.
In financial management, the board approved the following:
• Bank Reconciliations, Employee Payroll, Grant Award and Budget Adjustments.
• Authorization agreement for IRS Electronic Transmissions.
• Qualified Zone Academy Bond Program Agreement between McLiney and Company and Pocahontas County Board of Education.
• BrickStreet Mutual Insurance Company as Workers Compensation and Employers Liability insurer, effective for the 2016-2017 fiscal year, at an amount of $60,779.
• Notice of Election to authorize additional school levies to the voters of Pocahontas County.
• Standard form of agreement between owner and architect, between OWPR Architects and Engineers, Inc. and Pocahontas County Board of Education.
In miscellaneous management, the board approved the following:
• Teacher-in-Residence Program partnership agreement between Pocahontas County Board of Education and Glenville State College.
• Contract between Pocahontas County Board of Education and Richard F. McLaughlin to provide music instruction services, in collaboration of the classroom teachers, to the students of Hillsboro Elementary School for the 2016-2017 school year, at a cost of $25 per hour, not to exceed $7,200.
• Policy IKN – Pocahontas County Schools Credit Recovery/Extended Year Policy.
• To place the following policies on 30-day comment period: Policy IHE – Promotion, Acceleration, Placement and Retention; Policy GBF – Pocahontas County Schools Reduction in Force Professional Personnel Lateral Positions; and Policy GBRIA-A – Personal Leave Policy.
• West Virginia Alternative Certification Proposal Region 4 Alternative Certification Program Special Education.
• To contract with John R. Staats to serve as mentor for the following principals for the 2016-2017 school year, at $1,000 each ($3,000 total): Phillip Anderson, Marlinton Elementary School; Dustin Lambert, Marlinton Middle School; and Rebecca Spencer, Hillsboro Elementary School.
In personnel management, the board approved the following:
• Requested transfer of Corey A. Friel from custodian III at Pocahontas County High School to custodian III at Green Bank Elementary-Middle School, at state basic pay, effective for the 2016-2017 school year. Term of employment is 220 days.
• Employment of Thomas K. Dennison as cafeteria manager for 21st CCLC Summer Program at Green Bank Elementary-Middle School, retroactive to June 24 through July 30, except July 4, six hours per day, at an hourly rate of pay based on state minimum.
• Employment of Thomas K. Dennison as custodian for 21st CCLC Summer Program at Green Bank Elementary-Middle School, retroactive to June 27 through July 29, two hours per day, five days per week, at $12 per hour, not to exceed $600.
• Employment of Holly N. Cunningham as community coordinator for the 21st CCLC Program at Green Bank Elementary-Middle School, retroactive to June 21 through July 26, at $10 per hour, eight hours per day, not to exceed 200 hours.
• Employment of Jennifer Chestnut as speech language pathologist, extended year program, at Green Bank Elementary-Middle School, retroactive to June 21 through August 2, at $20 per hour.
• Employment of Lauren Brooke Dickenson as teacher, extended year program, at Green Bank Elementary-Middle School, retroactive to June 21 through August 2, at $20 per hour, three hours per day, four days per week.
• Employment of Dustin Lambert as principal at Marlinton Middle School, at state basic salary based on degree and experience plus equity (includes state minimum salary increment schedules), effective for the 2016-2017 school year. Term of employment is 220 days.
• Employment of Aaron L. Pugh, Abram J. Rittenhouse and Eric J. Rose as head boys track coaches at Pocahontas County High School, effective for the 2016-2017 season, at a supplement of $750 to be divided equally among the three individuals.
• Employment of Aaron L. Pugh, Abram J. Rittenhouse and Eric J. Rose as head girls track coaches at Pocahontas County High School, effective for the 2016-2017 season, at a supplement of $750 to be divided equally among the three individuals.
• Employment of Holly N. Cunningham as teacher of health/social studies at Pocahontas County High School, at state basic salary based on degree and experience, effective for the 2016-2017 school year. Term of employment is 200 days.
• Requested transfer of Ollie C. Barkley from custodian III at Green Bank Elementary-Middle School and Pocahontas County High School to custodian III at Pocahontas County High School, effective for the 2016-2017 school year, at state basic pay. Term of employment is 220 days.
• Employment of Kimberly McComb and Rachel McComb as cooks for the Pocahontas County High School band camp at the 4-H Camp in Thornwood, at an hourly rate of pay based on state minimum, July 24 through July 28.
• Employment of M. Susan Arbogast and Lucy M. Rittenhouse as parent involvement coordinators for Pocahontas County Schools, effective August 1 through May 12, 2017, at $20 per hour, 150 hours, not to exceed $3,000 per position. Schedule to be determined by the Director of Federal Programs, but cannot be extended beyond May 16, 2017. Salary to be paid by Title V funds.
• Employment of Cammy Jo Kesterson and Jean O. Srodes as credit recovery teacher for Pocahontas County Schools, retroactive to June 14 through July 19, as needed, for a total of 23 days at $20 per hour, not to exceed $1,840.
The next board meeting is Monday, July 25, at 7 p.m. at the board of education conference room.
