At a special meeting Monday night, the board of education filled several personnel positions. Although the board attempted to begin the school year with fewer substitutes in classrooms, some positions are still open and are posted.
In personnel management, the board approved the following:
• Resignation of Dervin E. Lambert as teacher of welding at Pocahontas County High School, retroactive to August 11.
• Rescinded action employment of Patrick Duane Gibson as mentor for Dervin E. Lambert, effective for the 2015-2016 school year, at a supplement of $1,000.
• Employment of Shannon G. Arbogast as boys soccer coach at Pocahontas County High School, effective for the 2015-2016 season, at a supplement of $1,500.
• Employment of William Lake Vaughan as substitute school bus operator for Pocahontas County Schools, retroactive to August 11, as needed, for the 2015-2016 school year, at state basic pay.
• Employment of Rebecca Davis as Itinerant Supervisory Special Education classroom aide/bus aide for Pocahontas County High School, at state basic pay, effective August 18, for the remainder of the 2015-2016 school year. Term of employment is 195 days. Term of employment shall be 200 days each year thereafter.
• Employment of Kenny J. Samples as school bus operator for Pocahontas County Schools, at state basic pay, effective August 18, for the remainder of the 2015-2016 school year. Term of employment is 195 days. Term of employment shall be 200 days each year thereafter.
In miscellaneous management, the board approved the following:
• Accepted bid from Woodford Oil Company for diesel, gasoline and #2 heating oil, effective August 15, 2015 through August 15, 2016.
• Memorandum of Understanding between Pocahontas County Board of Education and Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College. Pocahontas County Board of Education will provide course English Composition 101 CRN 3171 to 25 students at Pocahontas County Board of Education during the fall semester of the 2015-2016 school year. Pocahontas County Board of Education shall invoice Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College the sum of $1,530 per course.
• Contract between Pocahontas County Board of Education and Pocahontas County Parks and Recreation Board regarding use of the Pocahontas County Community Wellness Center in Marlinton, retroactive to July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016. All costs to be divided per the terms of the contract.
The next board meeting will be Monday, August 25, at 7 p.m. at the board of education conference room.
