Robert Carl “Bob” Allder, age 74, of Hillsboro, died suddenly at home Friday, October 27, 2023.
Bob loved many things during his life – his family, many rescued fur babies, building things (though not always at the fastest pace), good music, helping others, couch-coaching Washington even when they seemed to be trying to “snatch defeat from the jaws of victory,” baking delicious goodies, living in the country, growing a garden, yelling about politics, and the list could go on and on. He was a big man with a big heart who made a big impact on the lives of so many over the years. He was even-tempered, perpetually late, never forgot a birthday, and took care of those he loved to the best of his ability. Bob was often a quiet thinker, but was always ready to offer advice and ideas. He taught his sons the skills of DIY home repair, chopping wood, and car maintenance, the value of hard work, and offering help to others in need. Never was his love more visible than when he was spending time with his grandchildren.
Bob’s family was such an important part of his world.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Allder; mother, Gloria Akers; step-father, Carl DeMarsh; and siblings, Tom Allder and Judy Allder.
He is survived by his wife, Shay Huffman; sons, Jim Allder (Tasha Allder), and Corey Allder (Katie Shreve), from his marriage to Betsy Scott; step-children, Aracoma Smith (Chris), Tate Huffman (Faith Levine), Aaron Huffman (Sparrow), and Gavin Huffman (Bekah); four grandchildren, Ceili, Cedric, Clementine and Zaiah; four step-grandchildren, Kendal, Byram, Mason and Vivienne; siblings, Paul DeMarsh (Lisa Beck-DeMarsh), Debbie DeMarsh and Kim Lesniak (Rob Lesniak); and many others, including nieces and nephews.
Bob had many friends and loved ones who shared parts of his journey with him. While there are too many to name, he cherished each of these friendships.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Blue Bend Recreation Area beginning at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Bob’s memory be made to WV Healing Home, 1500 Maplewood Ave, Ronceverte, WV 24970.
