Arthur P. Dameron, 79, of Santee, South Carolina, formerly of Yardley and Morrisville, Pennsylvania, peacefully passed away Saturday morning, June 1, 2024.
The beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather succumbed to a brief period of illness.
Born March 28, 1945, in Morrisville, Pennsylvania, he was the fifth of six children of the late Frank and Gladys Dameron.
Art graduated from Morrisville High School and, in 1965, married the love of his life Sandra Tyndale. They had a beautiful life together bearing three children and living their lives surrounded by family and lifelong friends.
He was a lifelong resident and fostered relationships with nearly everyone in the Morrisville area. He could not walk through a hardware store without stopping to talk with at least one friend. His wife, children and grandchildren would stand by for as long as it took for him to speak with people who seemed like strangers but whose lives Art touched in some way. Whether it was his handyman knowledge on a project, opinions on trains and models, or his friendly advice, he shared his passion for these hobbies and his life knowledge with anyone who would listen.
Art and Sandy discovered Cass in the late 1960s that ignited a passion for trains, the mountains and the logging business in the town until 1963. They would camp, and later rented houses for family vacations in the sleepy, tiny town with steam engines running up and down the mountain. He loved it so much that he served as the treasurer for the Mountain State Railroad Logging Association, which assisted with maintaining and developing the Cass Scenic Railroad State Park from its inception until today. In his later years, he also enjoyed volunteering at Howell Farm, helping wherever he was of most use, as well as fostering new friendships and teaching people whatever he could.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; children, Christine Madzy, of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, Brian Dameron, of Summerton, South Carolina, and April McMahon, and husband, Kirk, of Santee, South Carolina; granddaughters, Emily Lomonaco, and husband, Dean, of Santee, South Carolina, Paige McMahon, of Charleston, South Carolina, Sophia and Charlotte Madzy, of Lawren-ceville, New Jersey; grandson, Bryon McMahon of Frackville, Pennsylvania; great-granddaughters, Kasandra and Mackenzie Lomonaco, of Santee, South Carolina; and a multitude of extended family.
There will be a Celebration of Life Sunday, June 30, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Historic Summerseat located at 130 Legion Avenue in Morrisville, Pennsylvania. There will be a family celebration in Cass where he will be cast into the mountains that he so loved.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Mountain State Railroad and Logging Historical Association, c/o Robert Hoke, Treasurer, 6304 Kaybro Street, Laurel, MD 20707; or Howell Living History Farm, 101 Hunter Road, Titusville, NJ 08560.
