Anna Rosemary Parker Kerr, age 85, of Ashford, Connecticut, died Friday, March 23, 2018, at Windham Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
Born April 12, 1932, in Gladesville, Preston County, she was the only child of the late George and Violet Leota Summers Parker.
She met her husband, Kirklyn M. Kerr, when they were both students at West Virginia University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Business Education in 1957 and 1962. The married July 4, 1957.
Ann was a devoted wife, mother, homemaker and teacher and assisted her husband in his career at universities. They spent years at West Virginia, Ohio State, Texas A & M, and Louisiana State universities, and University of Connecticut for the past 25 years in the College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources.
She became known, and was dearly loved, for her culinary skills and her wonderful entertaining events. During their careers in academia, she held positions as Business Education teacher in Mt. Sterling, Ohio, Spencer Business College, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Linden-McKinley High School and Bliss Business College, Columbus, Ohio. While in Ohio she worked summers in the Office of the President for Campus Planning of the Ohio State University.
Anna is survived by her husband of 60 years; son Kirklyn Todd, and wife, Adria; grandchildren; Sarah Margorie and Clay Euggino, Jacob Todd and Rachel Elaine, all of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by her mother when she was six years old; her grandmother when she was 15 years old, and then grew up in a neighboring home that took care of her. She has no close living relatives. She was preceded in death by three of her four sons, Kirklyn McNeer II, Trent Ashley and Travis Leighton.
Ann, during junior and high school, when growing up in Morgantown, attended Harner Chapel Methodist Church, the church she was later married in, and played piano for Sunday School services.
She and her husband have been strong supporters of the Liberty Presbyterian Church at Green Bank. For the past 50 years, Anna enjoyed visiting with and preparing food with her Kerr family and friends at their Allegheny Mountain property and cabin each July 4th and Thanksgiving in upper Pocahontas County.
Family will receive relatives and friends Friday, March 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, March 31, 11 a.m. at Liberty Presbyterian Church in Green Bank, with Pastor David Rittenhouse officiating. Burial will follow in the Arbovale Cemetery Annex.
