Barbara “Bobbie” Blackhurst Shaw, age 88, of Marlinton, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2024, in Mon General Hospital at Morgantown.

Born June 2, 1936, in Cass, she was a daughter of the late Theodore and Doris Robertson Blackhurst.

Bobbie was a graduate of Green Bank High School, attended Glenville State College, and graduated from West Virginia University in 1962.

She was a retired public school teacher. She began her teaching career in Morgantown while her husband, Ernie, attended Dental School. Following Ernie’s graduation, the couple returned to Marlinton where Bobbie became a long-time member of the faculty at Marlinton Elementary School, touching the lives of countless young people.

Bobbie was a devoted supporter of the 4-H program, serving for a brief period as Pocahontas County 4-H Agent. She was a dedicated member of the Marlinton United Methodist Church where she sang alto in the church choir and was active in the women’s group. She was a voracious reader, avid gardener and member of the Red Hat Society.

She looked forward to large family gatherings and relaxing on her deck.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Trudy Wooddell, Gwennie Friel and Betty Lou Blackhurst.

Bobbie is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dr. Ernie Shaw, of Marlinton; daughter, Kathleen Shaw, of Snowshoe; sister, Rebecca Judy (Joe), of Mill Creek; and several nieces and nephews.

A family gathering was held Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Shaw residence. Memories were shared as her family celebrated a life well lived.

In her memory, donations may be made to Pocahontas County 4-H Foundation, 900 E. 10th Avenue, Marlinton, WV 24954.

Lantz Funeral Home in Buckeye is honored to serve the family. Online condolences may be made at Lantzfuneralhome.com
