George Keith Wilmoth, 91, of Hamilton, Virginia, peacefully passed away Monday, May 13, 2024.
Born August 2, 1932, in Pocahontas County, he was a son of the late Paul Hiram Wilmoth and Mabel Judy Wilmoth.
George graduated from Green Bank High School. He joined the United States Navy in 1952 and served during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1956. He then attended West Virginia University before working as an apprentice funeral director in Strasburg, Virginia. He began attending the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science but was called by the Federal Aviation Administration in 1961 to become an air traffic controller. The family relocated to Virginia in 1961 and settled in Hamilton in 1963. George started Wilmoth Welding and Repair Service on Harmony Church Road, which was his favorite job as he enjoyed working with members of the local farming community. George was a pilot and a longtime member of Civil Air Patrol. He thoroughly enjoyed his missions for the Angel Flight program with his dear friend Tom Gatewood. He loved gospel music, fishing, hunting and working in his garden. He rode his bike to and from the welding building until he no longer could, at which point he switched to riding his four-wheeler to and from the house, garden and welding building.
George and Colleen became members of Harmony United Methodist Church in Hamilton, where George was a member of the United Methodist Men. George also attended Abundant Life Ministries Church of God in Hamilton. George was a Master Mason of the Olive Branch Lodge No. 114 in Leesburg, Virginia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Wilmoth.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Colleen; sons, Gregory Wilmoth (Tina), and Jeffrey Wilmoth (Holly); son of the heart, Darryl Creel (Karen); grandchildren, Ashley Wilmoth (Billy), Meghan Walker (Burke), Reese Wilmoth, Grace Creel and Anna Creel; and great-grandchildren, Jake Walker, Ryan Walker, Max Walker and Archie Walker.
A funeral service was held Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Harmony United Methodist Church in Hamilton, Virginia.
