Family portrait of Mayo Constance Beard with her husband and their two daughters near Hillsboro, W.Va. Mayo, born in 1901, was the daughter of Richard and Bessie Dysard Beard. She attended Marshall College and Davis and Elkins College. She was a teacher in Pocahontas County schools for many years. She became a member of Oak Grove Presbyterian Church in Hillsboro early in life and taught Sunday School at Beard Presbyterian Chapel. She was honored as the Pocahontas County “Teacher of the Year” in 1962 and passed away in 1963. She was loved and respected by everyone who knew her.
