Wilma “Jean” Clutter Palmer, 88, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023, at her daughter’s home in Kershaw, South Carolina.
Born in Renick, August 21, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Tom Cecil and Selma Rachel Sutphin Clutter. She was the fourth of 10 children in the family.
She spent her early years in Pocahontas County, and was a graduate of Marlinton High School, Class of 1954. She spent a brief time in Ohio before relocating to Maryland, where she lived until the last years of her life.
She will be remembered for the special treatment she always gave to family members. Her gifts were specially chosen and always so beautifully wrapped. Family members were often treated to delicious meals which frequently included peach cobbler, applesauce cake and unforgettable deviled eggs. She took so much pride in decorating her home.
Jean held many jobs during her lifetime. Together with daughter Cindy, she traveled worldwide to several countries and U.S. cities.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jason Palmer; and siblings, Tom (Dot) Clutter, Orval Clutter and Betty (Jim) Wilmot.
Her marriage to Eddie Palmer ended in divorce.
She is survived by three children: Cindy (Mark) Markowitz, of Belmar, New Jersey, Kevin (Lisa) Palmer, of Harpers Ferry, and Lana Keene, of Kershaw, South Carolina; grandchildren, Bradley (Niad) Keene, Aaron Markowitz, Casey (Leon) Cummings, Hunter (Madison) Palmer, Paige (Nick) Palmer and Brittany Palmer; and siblings, Opal Chamelin (Folger), Linda Weber (Harry, Helen (Andy) Wheeler, Phyllis (Mickie) McLaughlin (Bill Thompson), Hazel (TP) (Dave) Asbury, and Steve Clutter.
What a lovely lady she was. She will be fondly remembered by her family and others who knew her.
