A proposal has been made to increase the salaries of the deputies by $10,000.
This proposal has been put forth due to the difficulty in hiring and retaining deputies because their pay is not competitive with other counties. I believe that this deserves serious consideration since in addition to losing personnel we also face a reoccurring training cost for their replacement.
With money coming to the county from the opioid settlement this seems like a good source of funding.
I would also like to encourage the Department to consider a Community Policing Program. From personal experience these pro- grams, if implemented properly, have significant pay backs for law enforcement and the community.
