The Mamas and The Papas of the 1960s had a hit song “Monday, Monday.” But nothing is that simple anymore. One would think that Monday Lick would naturally follow Sunday Lick. But not necessarily. A couple of weeks ago, it was brought to my attention that, in some historical USGS documents, “Monday Lick” is referred to as “Munday Lick.” I passed this information to others more informed than myself, at a recent SHARC meeting. Here is to hoping the USFS can determine which spelling should be used, before trail signage becomes an issue.
Until we are better informed, the Monday Lick bid review team has completed their review and is now awaiting the USFS bid announcement. The Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and the USFS team members were in agreement with SHARC recommendations. Groundbreaking is still on track for September, depending on the bid announcement.
In other news, last week was a good week for Marlinton. Laura Young had submitted a grant application last spring to complete a couple of murals in the town. She messaged me last week to say funding is in hand for (probably two) murals, depending on size and other factors.
Also, if you recall, I met two representatives from The Conservation Fund (TCF) on August 17. The visit centered around the proposed Downtown Marlinton Trailhead project. A tour of the town followed, emphasizing new business startups in Town. Further investment is taking place in anticipation of what is coming – and more is coming. Since that visit, TCF has committed another round of funding toward the project.
Pieces are starting to fit. I am trying to set up another meeting to discuss next steps. None of this would be happening without having received the ARC funding for the Monday Lick Trail project.
