Jane Ruckman Motto, 83, of Poolesville, Maryland, after a long illness, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2023.

She had been in a skilled nursing facility in Bethesda, Maryland, for 30 days.

Jane was born in Mill Point August 11, 1939, and was a daughter of the late W. O. (Bill) and Ruth Gum Ruckman.

She graduated from Hillsboro High School, Class of 1957 as Valedictorian. She then went to Glenville State College where she graduated in 1961 with degree in Education (Speech and English). Jane taught English and Speech at Marlinton High School until 1964. She then furthered her education at West Virginia University where, in 1966, she received a Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology.

In 1966, Jane moved to Maryland where she was employed as a Speech Therapist by Montgomery County Schools.

After retirement Jane enjoyed travel and winter skiing. She was also a volunteer at a local hospital for 36 years, providing caring and compassionate service to everyone she served.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, George Motto; her sister, Eloise Player, of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina; and a number of nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.

A lovely Memorial Service was held at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, Maryland, where Jane and George were married August 16, 1969.

Many of Jane’s family and friends joined together to celebrate Jane’s long life.
