The clouds parted and the sun shone down on Marlinton Saturday as racers converged on Main Street at the start of the annual Great Greenbrier River Race. The air was filled with a static energy as the participants and crowd enthusiastically counted down the seconds until the starter pistol was fired and the triathlon was underway.
Individuals and teams put their skills to the test as they ran three miles down Main Street and the Greenbrier River Trail, paddled four miles down the Greenbrier River to Buckeye and hit the Greenbrier River Trail again for the 10-mile biking portion of the event.
More than 300 racers gave their all in the one-of-a-kind triathlon and ended the day with a sense of pride, accomplishment and community. For more than 30 years, the race has brought like-minded individuals together to challenge their abilities and give back to the Greenbrier River Trail that they love so much.
