Pocahontas County High School Spanish students shared their knowledge of Spanish-speaking cultures at the annual Foreign Language Festival Saturday.
The event included a savory and dessert cooking competition, poster and 3-D project showcase and skits.
Students put their own spin on two classic skits featuring comedian Will Ferrell. “Pantaolines Apretados” was an interpretation of the Jimmy Fallon/Will Ferrell skit “Tight Pants.”
“Mas Cencerro,” was an interpretation of the Saturday Night Live skit “More Cow Bell.”
Two original skits were written by students: “Conga,” by Laura Leyzorek and Mary Grace Rich; and “Where are the students?” by Kayla Gibson and Carlie Ervine.
Spanish teacher Shirlene Groseclose also recognized members of the Spanish Honor Society – Lindsey Hartzell, David Rose, Danielle Cain, Kayla Lester and Miles Goodall.
Winners in the cooking competition were:
Savory: first place, Courtney Cohenour; second place, Chase Alkire; and third place, Caitlin Keatley and Catyln Sparks.
Dessert: first place, Kayla Gibson and Carlie Ervine; second place, Ryan Irvine and Logan Davis; and third place, Laura Leyzorek and Mary Grace Rich.
