Educational
dinner meeting
An educational dinner meeting will be held at the Marlinton Municipal Building April 14 at 6:30 p.m.
Good grazing management can provide 250 days or more of grazing. However, in most parts of the state some conserved forage is required to feed cattle on days when snow or ice cover prevents grazing. This winter feed is usually dry hay but plastic wrapped haylage a.k.a. baleage is frequently used. Early made baleage can have higher nutritional quality than late cut dry hay. However, when baleage best management practices are not followed, baleage can be low quality, not providing adequate returns to pay for the equipment and plastic used in its production. Dr. Ed Rayburn will report results of on-farm research conducted in West Virginia showing the effects of baleage best management practices for making quality winter feed.
Attendance at this meeting will also be worth three (3) pesticide applicator recertification credits for categories 11, 12 and PA.
To attend the meeting you must RSVP to the Pocahontas County Extension Office by calling 304-799-4852 by Friday, April 10. For those who would like dinner, there will be a $3 charge to help cover the cost of dinner.
