Gertrude W. Fisher, age 106, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away Friday, March 20, 2015, at Whetstone Gardens, where she had resided for many years.
Born March 1, 1909, at Minnehaha Springs, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Mary Jane White.
Trudy was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church for more than 50 years and taught Sunday School there for 28 years. A graduate of Capital University, Trudy taught at Courtright School for 28 years, and served 17 years as assistant principal at East Main and Beechwood Schools in Whitehall, Ohio. She was a member of the Ohio and Franklin County Retired Teachers Associations, and a long-time member, and treasurer for 17 years, of Gamma Mu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Society, Social Order of the Beauceant and Beechwood Retired Teachers, a group she helped organize.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Paul V. Fisher; and six siblings, Ernest White, Gladys Moore, Ruth Cotterman, Lucile Pennybacker, Clarence White and Hazel Hanlin.
She is survived by a brother, Arlie White; a nephew, Jay Pennybacker, and wife, Nancy; nieces and nephews, Chris Winterstein, Betty Caldwell, Mary Jane Orr, Jeanette Poole, and husband, Ted, Frieda Carroll, Mary Sue White, and Junior White, and wife, Thelma; special friend, Carol Dones; and many other nieces, nephews and friends. The family wishes to thank the staff at Whetstone Gardens for the kind care given to Trudy.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, May 24, 1:30 p.m. at Schoedinger Northwest, 1740 Zollinger Road in Columbus, Ohio. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery. Family will receive friends from noon to 1:30 p.m.
