Geraldine “Gerry” Parker Morrison, 87, of Buckeye, died Saturday, March 13, 2021, at Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea.
Born February 15, 1934, in Lamesa, Texas, she was a daughter of the late Chester D. Parker and Eula Mae Strickland Parker.
In 1956, she married Herb Morrison Jr., whom she met while he was serving in the Air Force in Washington state. Herb died January 19, 1999.
Gerry lived in Texas during her early years. She moved to Venice, California, in 1942, and then to Washington in 1947. She was a registered nurse, having graduated from Whitworth College and the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Spokane, Washington. Most of her nursing career was spent in Pocahontas County, which became her home when she married Herb. Gerry worked in a variety of positions during her nursing career, and she especially enjoyed assisting with many births from 1956 through the 1980s.
She was a volunteer for the Family Resource Network and enjoyed helping with the Community Baby Showers. She loved writing poetry about friends and family, the residents she met while working at Pocahontas Center, and the beautiful scenery she observed locally and while traveling. She penned a column, “I Remember,” which was published in The Pocahontas Times.
Gerry attended Mountain View Assembly of God in Edray.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sons, Samuel Parker Morrison, James B. Morrison and an infant, William Lee Morrison; sister, Chestene Anderson; and niece Dorine Lang.
She is survived by her grandson, Zachary Parker Morrison; step-granddaughter, Catherine Kitchen; step-grandson, Lloyd Kitchen; and nieces and nephews.
She grew to love the mountains of West Virginia and the people of Pocahontas County. She had many happy memories of time spent with family and friends. Her extended family called her Mom or Grandma.
A memorial service is being planned and the date will be announced.
