Please note that some sectional play dates have been changed to one day earlier than previously reported to make it easier to reschedule games which are postponed due to bad weather.
Robert Palmer, Paw Paw High School Athletic Administrator, announced Tuesday, February 17, the 2015 West Virginia Class A Region II Section 2 Girls’ Basketball sectional pairings and seeds determined by vote of the Region II head basketball coaches.
The Pocahontas County High School Lady Warriors, the only state ranked team of the five schools playing in Section 2, were voted the #1 seed in Section 2. Schools may start sectional play as early as Friday, February 20, and through Saturday, February 28.
Game 1 of our section will send #5 seed Paw Paw of Morgan County to play at #4 seed Moorefield of Hardy County Saturday, February 21, at a time to be announced. The winner of that game will then advance to play in Game 2 at #1 seed Pocahontas County Tuesday, February 24, at 7 p.m.
Note: Region II Section 2 Girls’ Basketball Pairings:
Game 1 has been rescheduled for Monday, February 23, (5)Paw Paw at (4) Moorefield Time TBD
Game 3 will also be played on Tuesday at 7 p.m., sending #3 seed East Hardy to play at #2 seed Pendleton County.
Game 4, the Section 2 championship, will again be played at a neutral site, Petersburg High School, on Friday, February 27, at 7 p.m., between the Tuesday Game 2 and 3 winners. This game was played on Saturday last year.
If weather forces a cancellation of any sectional game, it will be played on the next available date.
Both teams in each of the eight Class A sectional finals held around the state will move on, win or lose, to regional play on Thursday, March 5, at 7 p.m. Games are played at the gyms of the eight sectional champions, who each host the runners-up from the other section in their region. Thus the losers in the eight sectional finals have another chance to still advance to states with a regional win on March 5.
The Lady Warriors will be trying to advance to and also to win their 14th straight sectional championship game won in both Region 3 and more recently in Region 2. Make plans to follow the four PCHS seniors, Tristin, Natalie, Bobbie and Olivia, who have made two previous trips to Charleston as freshmen in 2012 and as juniors in 2014.
