The Pocahontas Drama Workshop is looking for a few good men and a couple of women for the spring production of Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure.
The play, which was adapted by Steven Dietz from the original by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, has six male and two female roles. Rehearsals will begin in March and the play will be performed at the Pocahontas County Opera House May 15 and 16. An informal audition will take place at the McClintic Library in Marlinton Tuesday January 6, at 7 p.m. No acting experience is necessary and everyone is encouraged to come out and read for a part.
Director Arla Ralston describes the play as fast paced and fun with lots of witty dialogue and a fair amount of action. She realizes it may be a challenge to find actors for the six male roles but hopes the chance to play such fun parts will bring budding actors out of the woodwork.
“There’s Sherlock Holmes, his trusted sidekick, Dr. Watson and his arch enemy Moriarty,” Ralston said. “Plus a nice assortment of colorful minor roles for men. The two women characters are also pretty cool. One is the beautiful opera singer, Irene Adler, and the other is an accomplice to the crime.”
This is Ralston’s first directing venture for the Pocahontas Drama Workshop. She is filling in for Margaret Baker whose teaching schedule prevents her from directing this year’s production.
