After announcing at the Pocahontas County Board of Education meeting last week that the Class of 2020 graduation would be held at Snowshoe Mountain Resort, superintendent Terrence Beam now reports that the ceremony has been moved to the Pocahontas County High School football field.
Beam explained that he, principal Joe Riley and the PCHS staff collaborated on finding a way to give the seniors a proper send off, and the collective decided having the ceremony at the high school would be a better fit.
The graduation ceremony will be Saturday, June 20, at 2 p.m. If weather conditions do not cooperate, a rain date will be set at a later time.
Due to social distancing requirements, each graduate will be allowed to have four guests. The family units will be seated on the home side bleachers and may remain close, but each family will be socially distanced from others. It is recommended guests wear masks.
Graduates will be seated on the track. Guests will not be allowed to bring canopies to use in the stands.
Parking will be in the lower football parking lot, with no access to the upper parking lot at the high school. Handicapped parking will be available, if needed.
The seniors will not be accompanied by the Junior Marshals.
