PMH bids ‘happy retirement’ to longtime staff
This spring has been an interesting and difficult season for all of us. But even in the midst of the uncertainty and anxiety that the coronavirus pandemic brought us, five longtime Pocahontas Memorial Hospital staff members began exciting new chapters in their lives.
Cheryl Cain (Radiology Department Supervisor) and Joyce Doss (Clinical Lab Assistant Supervisor) retired in March.
And in May, Debra Crookshanks (Dietary), Jenell Kline (Housekeeping), and Ronald Sharp (Ambulance Driver and all-around helper to anyone who asked) retired.
All five of these dedicated employees retired with very little fanfare, and PMH wants to express how very much their contributions are appreciated.
Cain and Doss have been instrumental in the success of PMH’s community health fairs over the years, as well as two of the brains behind the very popular Spring Fling and Fall Dance. They were both hired by PMH in 1992 and retired with a collective 56 years of experience between them.
Crookshanks, as a Cook in the Kitchen, has happily greeted staff, patients and visitors for years.
Kline, affectionately known as “Birdie,” has always had a kind word and smile for everyone she meets. And with Sharp’s retirement, practically every department in the hospital may feel a loss, as he has willingly pitched in with any task any department ever asked him to help with – mowing grass, carrying inter-office mail, shredding papers or delivering meal trays.
While retirement is a happy beginning for all of them, PMH staff and patients will certainly miss this group of especially dedicated employees.
“Retirement often comes with mixed feelings even though it is the working person’s ultimate dream,” CEO Mary Beth Barr said. “These five employees have definitely made a difference at PMH and have also had a positive impact on our community. They will certainly be remembered for their passion, contributions and dedication to PMH, and they will truly be missed.”
