James A. “Jim” Simmons, age 79, of Fairport Harbor, Ohio, died Friday, October 24, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Born July 8, 1935, at Thornwood, he was a son of the late Arcel and Monna Bennett Simmons.
Jim was a 1953 graduate of Green Bank High School. He retired from Crane Manufacturing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 2000 after 16 years of employment. Prior to that, he had worked at Cleveland Crane in Wickliffe, Ohio, for 28 years. He was a former Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop #70 in Fairport Harbor, Ohio.
He enjoyed woodworking and hunting.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Nottingham and Shirley Morgan; and two sons-in-law, Arthur Morgan and John Crouser.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Imogene “Jean” Simmons; children, Linda Lias, and husband, Michael, Cathy Bohn, and husband, Albert, James Simmons, Jr., and wife, Sandra, Anita Crouser and Steven Webb, and Lisa Morgan; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Bessie Sutton, and husband, Ivan; and a brother, Ralph Simmons, and wife, Joann.
A private burial will be held at a later date.
