Charles H. Gum, Sr., age 84, of Arbovale, formerly of Cass, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2014, at Beckley VA Regional Hospital.
Born July 28, 1930, at Cass, he was a son of the late Harper and Genieve Hamrick Gum.
Charles was a United States Navy Veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Arbovale United Methodist Church and a life-time member of the VFW. He was owner/operator of The Tavern in Cass.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Sampson Gum; sons, Charles Kemper Gum and Richard Gum; and a sister, Lila Chestnut.
He is survived by a niece, Sandra Gladwell, and husband, George, of Hillsboro; and a nephew, David Chestnut, of Tallahassee, Florida.
Family will receive friends Friday, October 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Arbovale United Methodist Church. Funeral service is Saturday, October 18, at 1 p.m. at the church with Rev. David Rittenhouse officiating. Interment will be in the Arbovale Cemetery with Military Rites by the Pocahontas County Veterans Honor Corps.
