Clayton W. “Buck” Coffman, age 92, of Delphi, Indiana, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at Signature Healthcare.
Born June 3, 1922, at Alexandria, he was a son of the late Floyd and Ada Arnold Coffman.
On November 15, 1945, in Hillsboro, he married Uva V. Cooper who survives. He attended school in Beaver Creek. He was a World War II United States Navy Veteran, having served in the South Pacific in an amphibious landing vessel completing seven major landings. He was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart.
Buck worked as a repairman for 17 years in a body shop for the West Virginia Department of Highways. He retired in 1988. Prior to that, he worked at various auto body repair shops in the area for 18 years. He and his wife moved from Buckhannon to Delphi, Indiana, in November of 1989.
He was a member and very active with the Calvary Baptist churches in Elkins and Buckhannon, and was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Delphi, Indiana. He enjoyed woodworking and dearly loved his family, and the Lord.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna M. Dilley; two brothers, Brunner and Jack; a half-brother; and five half-sisters.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held July 19 at Abbott Funeral Home in Delphi, Indiana, with Michael Harbour officiating. Interment with Military Rites by the Carroll County Honor Guard was in Paint Creek Cemtery, Camden.
