The Pocahontas County Prevention Coalition is looking for a few good men, women and children with Warrior pride.

The organization and the Dropout Prevention volunteers are hosting a beautification day at Pocahontas County High School Saturday, June 14.

“It’s going to begin at 9 a.m.,” Prevention Coalition coordinator Cheryl Jonese said. “We’re going to provide lunch. We really encourage the community to come out. Bring your shovels, rakes and lots of energy to help spruce up the school.”

The day will consist of landscaping around the school, painting fences and picnic tables, and sprucing up the area around the PCHS sign at the school entrance.

The beautification began with the placement of potted flowers at the front doors. Although this is the first community-wide “spruce up” of the school, Jonese hopes it won’t be the last.

“I certainly hope it becomes annual,” she said. “We have wonderful personnel – maintenance and so forth – but it’s just a lot to do. Plus, we want to encourage students to have pride in their school. I really think if students come out and help, they’re going to have a little bit more pride.”

The beautification day will also give students volunteer hours that they need to complete their mentorship project.

“We really want to get the students involved, to show their pride in the school,” Jonese said.
