Letter to the Editor

June 5, 2014

Dear Editor:

Now that warm weather is finally upon us (well, most of the time), we begin to put the harsh, cold winter behind us and look forward to our summer activities outside, in the garden and with family and friends.

As a last hurrah to winter, though, I would like to take this opportunity to extend a huge and hearty “thank you” for the fantastic work done by our highway crews all winter long.

In the worst of conditions and regardless of time of day or night, these folks plowed, scraped, salted and cindered their way throughout the county making their best attempts at keeping our roads open and safe for travel.  In addition, they become a constant and consistent source of information to so many businesses and agencies such as EMS, Board of Education and NRAO, providing us with road condition reports and trouble spots.

I would particularly like to thank Alfred Hammons in Marlinton for what probably seemed to him as an every morning phone call at 4 a.m. asking for a road update. He was always pleasant, friendly and extremely accommodating.  He is proof that so many in the county, working together, make this such a wonderful place to live and work.  Without his, and all the road crews’ efforts, we would have had such a harder time through this, and every, winter.

My thanks to all of you, and know that you are truly appreciated.

Michael J. Holstine,

PE Business Manager
