Esther Faye Akers, age 80, of Buffalo, Wyoming, passed away suddenly Sunday, April 27, 2014, at Johnson County Memorial Hospital.
Born April 27, 1934, in Marion, Ohio, she was the youngest daughter of the late Roy and Lucy Bell.
Ester was a 1953 graduate of Marlinton High School. She was married to Donald Akers and they raised four children in Ohio and West Virginia. She was a homemaker for many years and later worked at Snowshoe Mountain Resort and Cass Scenic Railroad State Park. She moved to the Pacific Northwest to be closer to her family and later settled in Buffalo, Wyoming.
Esther was known for her love of home cooking, especially baking and making jams and jellies. It was a yearly occasion to make apple butter over an open fire with family. For the past few years, she participated at the weekly Buffalo Farmers Market selling her pies, cakes, bread and apple butter. Her love of animals, especially horses brought her much joy throughout her life. She had a flair for fashion and flamboyant hats. She was thrilled to wear one of her most prized hats at the Kentucky Derby. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart and she enjoyed sharing her life experiences with them.
She is survived by her son, Danny Akers, and wife, Crystal, of Buckeye; three daughters, Terry Watson, and husband, Mike, of Bellingham, Washington, Lori Dean, and husband, Harlan, of Deming, Washington, and Jennifer George, and husband, B.J., of Buffalo, Wyoming; a brother, Martin Bell, and wife, Ginny, of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Dorothy Miller, of Columbus, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at a later date.
