Durbin Town Council appointed Sheila Varner as new councilmember at its monthly meeting April 15.
The seat was left vacant in March when Danielle Findley resigned to be town recorder.
Residents Shawn Wood and Thelma Smith also applied for the position.
In other action, council approved:
• Amendments to three town ordinances – town curfew, housing and building regulations, and garbage ordinance. Findley explained that town attorney Martin Saffer reviewed the ordinances and made suggestions for changes.
• To spend no more than $10,000 on a used dump truck. Councilmember Mike Vance and BFD fire chief Buster Varner will attend a state auction in Buckhannon to bid on a truck.
• Purchasing items to make improvements to the town lagoon. Vance reported that the hot water tank blew up and needs to be replaced.
• To amend the town sewer tariff to raise it to a 4,500 gallon minimum.
Durbin Town Council meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the town office.
