Michael O’Brien, Director
Pocahontas County Homeland Security and Emergency Management
Emergency Management officials are actively preparing for the arrival of Hurricane Florence beginning Thursday, September 13.
We are coordinating with the Red Cross, county school officials and others on sheltering. Updates on shelter locations will be sent out in a later release.
We are in constant communication with West Virginia Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and our local partners.
In the meantime, to assist with preparations, we recommend that folks in low lying, flood prone areas stay vigilant with the weather forecast.
Evacuations are not mandatory at this time, however please make arrangements as you feel necessary to protect life and property.
Please secure all loose items outside your residence and have your 72-hour storm kit ready.
If you are not a user of our emergency alert system, we recommend signing up at www.nixle.com. This will provide automatic notifications from the National Weather Service as well as important local updates.
Please contact our office at 304-799-3985 or 304-799-4624 with any questions.
Remember: Turn Around. Don’t Drown.
