Calvin Junior Sharp, age 73, of Round O., South Carolina, died Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at the Hospice of Charleston Center in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.
Born July 22, 1944, in Marlinton, he was the oldest son of the late Calvin Harding and Ethel Morgan Sharp.
He graduated from Marlinton High School, and then attended Potomac State College in Keyser. After two years, he transferred to West Virginia University School of Forestry in 1970 where he received a B.S. degree in Forest Management. He received his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Webster University in Charleston, South Carolina. Immediately after graduating from WVU he became employed by the Westvaco Corporation Timberlands Division in Summerville, South Carolina, where he worked until his retirement.
Calvin was a member of the Forestry Association of South Carolina, and was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Walterboro. Calvin had a passion for gardening, and enjoyed sharing his vegetables with all his friends and neighbors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and won several fishing tournaments over the years. He loved going to Colorado to hunt every year with family members and friends, and he enjoyed going back to his hometown in West Virginia to attend his high school class reunions, and to bear hunt. His favorite song was “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a brother, Freddie Sharp.
He is survived by his two children, Lucinda “Cyndee” Shaffer, and husband, Bobby, of Walterboro, South Carolina, and Calvin Timothy Sharp, and wife, Michelle, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; step-daughter, Tammy Beach Crosby Peters of Round O., South Carolina; the mother of his children, Dians Kerr Sharp, of Walterboro, South Carolina; three granddaughters, Atlanta Mardrae Therrell, Caroline Marjorie Sharp and Courtney Anne Sharp; three step-grandchildren, Tanner Crosby, Kayleigh Peters and Pete Peters; three great-grandchildren, Avery, Angel and Keenan; two brothers, Teddy Eugene Sharp, and wife, Sue, and Billy Joe Sharp, both of West Virginia; a sister, Robin Louise Rasmussen, and husband, Nelson, of Weems, Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to all those who helped with transportation to and from appointments to doctors, and for all the visits and phone calls this past year.
Funeral service was held April 29 in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Walterboro, South Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the charity or organization of one’s choice.
