James Schepleng

James Lynn “Sonny” Schepleng, age 70, of Marlinton, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at his home, following an extended illness.

Born October 5, 1943, at Baltimore, Maryland, he was a son of the late James E. and Thelma Elizabeth Lucthe Schepleng.

James was retired from Towson State University Police Department in Towson, Maryland. He was a a member of multiple organizations including, the Rosedale and Middle River Volunteer Fire Departments, in Maryland, Huntersville Baptist Church, Fraternal Order of Police in Elkins, the Royal Arch Chapter #23 in Beverly, the Pocahontas County Scottish Rites, Order of the Eastern Star Lodge #97 and the Masonic Lodge #127, where he was Past Master from 2002 – 2003. He was the President of the Civil Service Commission for Pocahontas County.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Evans Schelpeng; two sons, Brent Schelpeng, of Baltimore, Maryland, and Travis Buchanan, and fiancée, Tracy Hartmann, of Nanticoke, Pennsylvania; three daughters, Melonie Schepleng-Gibson, and husband, Chris, of Marlinton, Jennifer McKitrick, and husband, Ira, of Charleston, and Katelyn Lindsay, and husband, Jason, of Marlinton; and nine grandchildren, Donald Green, Dillion Green, Kristin Gibson, Martina Gibson, Adriannan Buchanan, Jaden Hartman, Bennie Hartman, Nathaniel McKitrick and Anthony McKitrick.

Funeral service was February 16 at Lantz Funeral Home with Pastor Sam Felton officiating. Interment with Masonic Rites by Masonic Lodge #127 was in Dunfield Cemetery on Jerico Road.

Memorials may be made to the Fraternal Order of Police, Masonic Lodge #127 or Order of the Eastern Star #97.
