The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a Flood Watch which will be in effect from Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning. The affected area includes Northeast Kentucky, Southeast Ohio, Southwest Virginia and West Virginia, including Pocahontas County.
The ground is saturated at the surface and frozen further down.
A storm system is expected to move across the region Tuesday night through Wednesday. This storm has the possibility of producing rainfall amounts between 1.0 and 1.5 inches.
If this rain is realized, small streams and creeks could flood first, and lead to strong rises on the rivers.
A flood watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.
Please monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
