Adelaide Florinda Burnside Newbraugh finally reunited with her special love, Glenn E. Newbraugh, who died in 1997. She died peacefully Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at her home. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends, whom she had touched in some small way throughout her wonderful and memorable life.
Born December 6, 1929, in Morgantown, she was a daughter of the late Charles Leland and Sara Russell Burnside.
After graduating from Morgantown High School, Adelaide married Glenn Newbraugh August 31, 1947. She worked for O.J. Morrison, then worked at Montgomery Ward for 27 years, in various positions and departments. She met a lot of people with whom she developed great friendships. One thing is for sure, she walked several hundred miles over her lifetime.
Adelaide was a member of the Westover United Methodist Church, where she sang in the church choir in her younger years. She was also a member of the Methodist Women’s group. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge IOOF and a member of the Eastern Star.
She will be remembered for her wonderful Angel Food cakes, various cookies – chocolate chip and raisin filled to name a few – and cakes. She loved to bake and share her goodies with family and friends. She loved to collect pictures, articles, stories and document them in albums for others to know the history of family and our country.
Everyone who knew her, knew how much she loved animals, especially cats. Throughout the years, Adelaide nurtured, raised and took care of cats who belonged to her, and many that did not. She never wanted to see any human or animals hurt or hungry. Her gentle and loving care will be missed by so many who knew and loved her.
She is survived by a sister, Charlotta Riley, and husband, Ed, of Hillsboro; and many nieces, nephews and cousins from the Burnside, Newbraugh and Koon families.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the many caregivers who helped Adelaide over the last several years, especially Katie, Wanda, Denise and Lynda.
Funeral service was held August 28 at Westover United Methodist Church with Pastor Rose “Jo” McCartney officiating. Interment was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Mount Morris, Pennsylvania.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Adelaide’s name may be made to the Westover United Methodist Church, 28 North Street, Westover, WV 26501.
