It’s been a goal for years, and now Pocahontas County High School guidance counselor Linda Beverage is finally putting together her PCHS cookbook.
Beverage, with the help of Youth Health Services, is organizing recipes from former students, parents of students, current and former staff of the school and anyone else who wants to share. The cookbook will be compiled in a three-ring binder and sold as a fundraiser for the school.
“Our target goal is to try to get the cookbook out for Christmas,” Beverage said. “The money that we take in for this project will go into the Warrior Helping Fund. It was a fund years ago, and we want to reestablish it. That fund would be there for students who might need money for a cap and gown; might need money to go on a trip; might need money for a yearbook. It will be the committee’s discretion.”
Beverage added that the fund will also serve students at other schools in the county. If a teacher has a student in need, they can contact the committee and ask for assistance.
A portion of the proceeds from cookbook sales will also go to the Humane Society to honor Beverage’s love of animals.
Recipes may be mailed or emailed to Beverage.
“The recipes must be typed and organized,” she said. “If you send them in by mail, they need to be legibly written. We need the name of the person who is submitting and a phone number or email so we can keep in contact. It’s not just the PCHS community. It’s the whole county. We’d like to hear from the alumni. We’d like to have recipes from the alumni out there, and we’d like to know what they’re doing.”
Alumni and retired personnel are encouraged to include information about where they are now and what they have been doing since their time at PCHS.
