Father Mark Gallipeau, age 61, died Tuesday, April 25, 2017, in Morgantown, two months after being diagnosed with cancer.
Father Mark was a graduate of Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio, and received his Master of Divinity degree from St. Vincent Seminary in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. From 2007 to 2013, he was Pastor at St. John Neumann Church in Marlinton, St. Mark the Evangelist Church in Bartow and St. Bernard Chapel at Snowshoe. During his service to the Catholic churches in Pocahontas County, he also volunteered as a ski instructor at Snowshoe Mountain Resort.
Prior to being ordained as a priest in 2006, Father Mark was a professional ski instructor and an electronics specialist. He was an avid skier, kayaker, mountain biker and outdoorsman. He had a lifetime history of service to others.
Father Mark will be greatly missed by his family, friends and parish families.
He is survived by his parents, Mary and Robert Gallipeau; a daughter, Tracey; and siblings, David, Stephen, Erik and Susan.
Funeral Mass celebrated by Bishop Michael Bransfield and the attending clergy was held May 1. Burial was in St. Brendan Church Cemetery in Elkins.
