Matthew A. Moore was promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major at a Frocking Ceremony January 13 at the Chemical Biological Incident Response Force Headquarters Naval Support Facility in Indian Head, Maryland.
Moore, who joined the Marines following his graduation from Pocahontas County High School, will mark 20 years in the military in July.
He has served two tours in Iraq.
His next assignment is Fort Lee, Virginia.
“He’s strictly a Marine,” his proud grandfather Keith Moore, of Marlinton, said. “I’m glad we had a little bit of influence on him.”
