Dempsey Lee Sharp, age 59, of Buckeye, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital in Buckeye, following a heart attack.
Born November 26, 1957, in Marlinton, he was a son of the late Norman Samuel and Beulah June Sharp.
Dempsey was a retired Union coal miner, known to coworkers as “Sparky.” He worked for Ranger-Fuel, Massey, PJ&H Kerstan, Peabody and Bear Run Mines. He loved being outdoors, especially fishing and hunting.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ricky L. Sharp and Norman Sharp, Jr.
He is survived by two daughters, Crystal L. Moore, and husband, Jackie L. of Lewisburg, and Jessica C. Sharp, and husband, Stanley D. Friel, of Marlinton; his wife (companion), Barbara Lynn Sharp, of Buckeye; two grandsons, Brandon (Bubby) Friel and Shameron Friel, both of Marlinton; a granddaughter, Lillie Moore, of Lewisburg; a brother, David W. Sharp, of Marlinton; two sisters, Rachel V. Sharp, of Buckeye, and Martha Sharp, of Beckley; many nieces and nephews; and several great friends.
Per his wishes, the body was cremated.
A memorial service will be held Friday, December 30, 4 p.m. at VanReenen Funeral Home. Family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
