Betty Ruth Conrad Crist, age 87, of Arbovale, passed away peacefully at her home, Sunday, November 27, 2016.
Born October 6, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Fred Golden and Mary Mable Conrad.
Betty Ruth was a lifelong member of the Arbovale United Methodist Church and served in many capacities, most importantly as a warm and caring Christian. She was well-known in the community for her selfless devotion to others and numerous charitable activities. She touched the lives of many in the community with her kind and thoughtful gestures, and was famous for her popcorn balls at Halloween.
She was a faithful friend, a skilled seamstress, a compassionate caregiver and a true servant. Whether in the garden, working on a jigsaw puzzle or quilting, she always had a project.
As a loving wife, mother and NeeNaw, her family was her greatest blessing and joy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Jeanne Shinaberry, Carol Sterling, Francis Gray Dahnert and Barbara Conrad; and a brother, Hubert Conrad.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Harold Crist; two sons, Bob Crist, and wife, Cathy, of Richmond, Virginia, and Mike Crist, and wife, Debbie, of Beaverdam, Virginia; four daughters, Renae Wooddell, and husband, Rick, of Green Bank, Anita Watson, of Arbovale, Betty Ann Doyle, and husband, Rick, of Eden, North Carolina, and Melinda Wallace, and husband, Dillard, of Kinston, North Carolina; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She will truly be missed by her family and friends.
Family will receive friends Wednesday, November 30, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Arbovale United Methodist Church. Funeral service will be Thursday, December 1, 11 a.m. at the Arbovale United Methodist Church. Interment in the Arbovale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Betty Ruth’s name may be made to the BFD Fire and Rescue – Green Bank Division Rescue Squad; or the Arbovale United Methodist Church.
