Pastor Hershel O’Quinn, age 77, of Elkins, passed from this life Friday, October 21, 2016, at Mon General Hospital in Morgantown.
Born Thursday, June 29, 1939, at Union, he was a son of the late Arvil and Hazel O’Quinn.
On October 21, 2006, in Elkins, he married Thelma S. Sparks Shoemake.
During his life, Hershel served his country in the United States Army, completing a tour in Germany. He retired from Mon Power Company with 37 years of service.
He was a dedicated fisher of men. He served as pastor of the Renick Baptist Church for a few years, then continued witnessing to everyone who crossed his path, until the Lord Jesus called him home.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Stacey O’Quinn; a brother, Joe O’Quinn; and the mother of his children, Brenda Wilson O’Quinn.
In addition to his wife, those left to cherish his memory are three children, Melissa Gray, of Concord, North Carolina, Orville O’Quinn, of Mt. Pleasant, North Carolina, and Michael O’Quinn, of Caldwell; seven grandsons; two granddaughters; and four siblings; Betty O. Bradney, Phyllis O. Hawks, Gladys O. Bryant and Dale O’Quinn. He was also a mentor to Dennis and Connie Dever.
Funeral service was October 24 at Randolph Funeral Home in Valley Bend with Pastor Jack Howell officiating. Interment with Military Honors by the Pocahontas County Veterans Honor Corps was in the Walkup Cemetery in Renick.
