Charles Richardson

Charles McElwee Rich-ardson, age 89, of Marlinton, passed away Friday, October 21, 2016, at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital in Buckeye.

Known as “Googie” to family and friends, he was born October 2, 1927 in Marlinton, and was the son of the late Charles Richardson and Elizabeth McElwee Richardson.

Googie attended school in Marlinton, and went on to further his education at Fork Union Military Academy. He served his country in the Pacific during World War II and re-enlisted in the Army, serving overseas in Germany. After returning to the United States, he again re-enlisted and was stationed at Fort Knox before his honorable discharge in 1964.

He returned home to operate the Western Auto in Richwood, and after several years there, he began assisting his father in operating the family business, C.J. Richardson Hardware and Furniture in Marlinton.

Googie was a lifelong member of the Marlinton Lions Club and the Marlinton United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Sue Harper Richardson; and a son, Terry Lynn Richardson.

He is survived by a daughter, Vickie Ferrell, and husband, Buddy, of Marlinton; a daughter-in-law, Nathalie Dolan Richardson, of Marlinton; six grandchildren, Zach Richardson, Ben Richardson, Annie Laurie Robinson, Dan Richardson, Grace White and Michael Ferrell; and two great-grandchildren, Richard Michael White and MacKenzie White.

Funeral service will be Friday, October 28, 2 p.m.at the Marlinton United Methodist Church with Pastors David Merryman and Sam Felton officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery with Military Graveside Service conducted by the Pocahontas County Veterans Honor Corps. Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until time of service.
