Dessie Gertrude McLaughlin, age 95, of Dunmore, died Friday, October 14, 2016, at Pocahontas Center in Marlinton.
Born April 30, 1921, at Rorer, she was a daughter of the late William Luther and Vertie Mae McClure Stamper.
Dessie was a homemaker. She was a member of the New Hope Church of the Brethren, the Dunmore Home Demonstration Club, Community Choir, Hilltoppers Choir and the Pocahontas Center Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee McLaughlin; sons, Eddie Lee McLaughlin, Robert William McLaughlin and Larry Neal McLaughlin; a brother, Marion Stamper; sisters, Lena Townsend, Audrey Wright and Elizabeth Fryer; two grandsons, Randy McLaughlin and Bart Hively.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary Sue Green, and husband, Ted, of Washington, D.C., Dessie Marie Sharp, and husband, Gary, of Marlinton, and Cheryl Ann Beverage, and husband, Danny, of Cass; a son, James David McLaughlin, and wife, Cindy, of Dunmore; a sister, Glena Cromer, of Wickenburg, Arizona; 14 grandchildren, Bobbie Jo Simmons, Jessica Shinaberry, Jarrett McLaughlin, and wife, Emily, all of Dunmore, Jane Hunter Wilson, and husband, Troy, of Marlinton, Billy McLaughlin, of Kentucky, Jim Bob Mc-Laughlin, of Durbin, Dawn Workman, and husband, Matt, of Hillsboro, Kim McLaughlin, Valarie Monico, and husband, Pete, and Katelynn Beverage, all of Snowshoe, Eric Sharp, and wife, Leslie, of Pearisburg, Virginia, Jennifer Fessler, and husband, Chris, of Powhatan, Virginia, and Kelsey Beverage and Cole Beverage, and wife, Whitney, all of Cass; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Dessie will be remembered by all who knew her for her graciousness, her love of God, her love for her family and just simply being a very genuine and wonderful lady, who always had a smile and a kind word.
Funeral service was October 17 at the New Hope Church of the Brethren with Julian Rittenhouse and David Rittenhouse officiating. Interment was in the Dunmore Cemetery.
