At the Pocahontas County Board of Education meeting September 12, the board voted on the following items.
In financial management, the board approved the following:
• Payment of vendor listings of claims in the amounts of $23,571.40; $85,093.76 and $165,576.23.
• WVDE Variance Explanation for the month of July, grant awards and Extra Duty Pay for the month of August.
In miscellaneous management, the board approved the following:
• Leah Shinaberry to travel to Boston, Massachusetts, to participate in Better Math Teaching Network meeting October 13-14, at no cost to the board.
• Lesa McCarty to travel to Chattanooga, Tennessee, to attend the 21st Century Multi-State Conference, October 24-26, at no cost to the board.
• P. Erwin Berry, IV, to transport six students by van to National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, October 19-21.
• Policy GCC-C – Substitute Service Personnel Policy.
• Teacher-in-Resident Partnership Agreement between West Virginia University and Pocahontas County Schools.
• Pocahontas County Collaborative Preschool Memorandum of Understanding.
• Permission to place on 30-day comment Acceptable Use Policies: Pocahontas County Schools’ Education Purpose and Acceptable Use of Electronic Resources, Technologies and the Internet (Pocahontas County Schools Acceptable Use form for students grades 3-12; and Pocahontas County Schools’ Personnel Acceptable Use Form.)
• Contract between Pocahontas County Board of Education and Laura Solliday, to provide services as an Academic Interventionist at Green Bank Elementary-Middle School, effective September 14 through the end of the 2016-2017 school year, at $20 per hour, 15 hours per week, not to exceed 30 weeks, not to exceed $9,000.
• Memorandum of Understanding between Pocahontas County Board of Education and Pocahontas County Health Department to work together during a disaster, whether man-made or natural, or during a pandemic/epidemic and to make available locations for shelters, command or temporary alternate care facilities during an incident.
In personnel management, the board approved the following:
• Resignation of Ella M. Taylor, due to retirement, as supervisory classroom aide/bus aide/paraprofessional/early childhood classroom assistant teacher at Green Bank Elementary-Middle School, effective at the end of the day on October 31.
• Employment of Lesa McCarty as Project SPLASH site coordinator at Green Bank Elementary-Middle School, effective September 14, for the remainder of the 2016-2017 school year, at $23 per hour, up to nine hours per week, for up to 25 weeks, plus additional planning/meetings before program begins.
• Employment of Chad See as Project SPLASH recreation enrichment instructor at Green Bank Elementary-Middle School, effective September 14, for the remainder of the 2016-2017 school year, at $20 per hour, up to 2.5 hours per week, for up to 25 weeks, plus additional planning/meetings before program begins.
• Employment of Amanda Nottingham as Project SPLASH homework help teacher at Green Bank Elementary-Middle School, effective September 14, through the end of the 2016-2017 school year, at $20 per hour, up to nine hours per week, for up to 25 weeks, plus additional planning/meetings before program begins.
• Employment of Karen Murphy as Project SPLASH ELA tutor/enrichment instructor at Green Bank Elementary-Middle School, effective September 14, through the remainder of the 2016-2017 school year, at $20 per hour, up to seven hours per week, for up to 25 weeks, plus additional planning/meetings before program begins.
• Employment of Gregory Morgan as Project SPLASH performing arts instructor at Green Bank Elementary-Middle School, effective September 14, through the end of the 2016-2017 school year, at $20 per hour, up to 2.5 hours per week, for up to 25 weeks, plus additional planning/meetings before program begins.
• Employment of Cheryl R. Jonese as Project SPLASH counselor at Green Bank Elementary-Middle School, effective September 14, through the end of the 2016-2017 school year, at $20 per hour, up to five hours per week, for up to 25 weeks, plus additional planning/meetings before program begins.
• Employment Alison C. Flegel as Project SPLASH visual arts instructor at Green Bank Elementary-Middle School, effective September 14, through the end of the 2016-2017 school year, at $20 per hour, up to 2.5 hours per week, for up to 25 weeks, plus additional planning/meetings before program begins.
• Employment of Thomas W. Boothe as Project SPLASH positive youth behaviors/healthy lifestyles instructor at Green Bank Elementary-Middle School, at $20 per hour, up to five hours per week, for up to 25 weeks, plus additional planning/meetings before program begins.
• Employment of Anne M. Smith as Project SPLASH special education teacher at Green Bank Elementary-Middle School, at $20 per hour, up to five hours per week, for up to 25 weeks, plus additional planning /meetings before program begins.
* Note: Project SPLASH is an after-school program. All Project SPLASH positions are contingent upon adequate student enrollment and/or attendance.
• Employment of Devan E. Simmons as after-school tutor at Hillsboro Elementary School, effective September 14 through June 1, at $20 per hour, two hours per day, two days per week, not to exceed 23 weeks.
• Employment of Rosanne T. Zeni as after-school coordinator/career counselor/ tutor at Marlinton Elementary School, effective September 14 through June 1, at $25 per hour, eight hours per week, not to exceed 23 weeks.
• Employment of E. Jamey Weber and Jennifer McCarty as after-school tutors at Marlinton Elementary School, effective September 14 through June 1, at $20 per hour, two hours per day, two days per week, not to exceed 23 weeks, to be divided equally between the two individuals.
• Employment of L. Cammie Kiner, Jennifer McCarty, Teresa Rhea, Denise W. Sharp and Cynthia L. Shreve as after-school tutors at Marlinton Middle School, effective September 14 through June 1, at $20 per hour, two days per week, not to exceed 23 weeks. Position to be divided equally among five individuals.
• Employment of Joshua Corder as assistant band director at Pocahontas County High School, retroactive to the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year, at a supplement of $750.
• Employment of Jeanette D. Wagner as after-school tutor at Pocahontas County High School, effective September 14 through June 1, at $20 per hour, two hours per day, two day per week, not to exceed 23 weeks.
• Employment of Shereen R. Bailey and Andrew G. Pritt as substitute teachers for Pocahontas County Schools, effective September 14 through the end of the 2016-2017 school year, as needed, at state basic pay based on degree and experience.
• Employment of William Michael Hardesty as substitute custodian for Pocahontas County Schools, retroactive to September 9, for the remainder of the 2016-2017 school year, as needed, at state basic pay.
The next board meeting is Monday, September 26, at 6 p.m., at the board of education conference room.
