The Pocahontas County Warrior football team traveled to Moorefield for the second game of the 2016 season.
Senior Captains for the game were Wyatt Workman, Danny Kimble, Morgan Mason and Ryan Irvine. The Warriors won the toss and elected to receive.
The Warriors pushed downfield into Yellowjacket territory with several great runs from RB Morgan Mason and QB Wyatt Workman. The Warriors scored on this first possession of the game with a five-yard QB sneak by Workman, with the extra point by Logan Dilley, the Warriors were up 7-0.
The Warrior defense was once again relentless in its attack and never backed down or gave up, making the Yellowjackets work hard for every yard they gained.
Moorefield had to punt on its first possession, but with an interception and 35-yard pass, the Jackets scored and the game was tied at 7-7.
The Warrior squad scored again with a break away 50-yard run by Mason and a 20-yard run by Junior RB Michael Morrison, putting the Warriors up 14-7. The Yellowjackets would score two more times making the game ending score Warriors 14, Moorefield 21.
The Warriors had three players with 100 plus rushing yards – Mason, Morrison and Workman – and Junior Mark Jordan and Sophomore Jacob Jones each had seven tackles.
PCHS racked up 381 yards in 60 plays, while Moorefield moved the ball 306 yards in 56 plays.
The #10 Warriors travel to Pendleton County Friday, September 9, to take on the Wildcats. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
