Junior Vaughn “June” Colaw, age 93, of Durbin, passed away Monday, May 9, 2016, at Davis Medical Center in Elkins. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Born July 21, 1922, on Back Mountain Road, Durbin, he was a son of the late James and Mary Gragg Colaw.
June was united in marriage on February 8, 1945, to Kathleen Barbara Mullenax.
He was a retired bus driver for the Pocahontas County Board of Education. In addition to being a bus driver, he was the butcher/meat cutter for Kane’s Grocery in Durbin. He held various other jobs for his long-time friend and employer, Red Kane, such as appliance sales and service, TV cable repairman and store clerk.
June was a member of the Durbin United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge #124 Riverside. He was instrumental in the formation of the BFD Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Russell Colaw, Vernon Colaw and Hayward Colaw; and three sisters, Monna Feather, Velma Sutton and Mary Willa Smith.
In addition to his wife of 71 years, he is survived by three children, Robert Colaw, of Elkins, Cheryl Baker, and husband, Ronnie, of Ronceverte, and Doris Nelson, and husband, Danny, of Elkins; two grandsons, Trevor Nelson, and wife, Jennifer, of Broadway, Virginia, and Kevin Baker, and wife, Heather, of Lewisburg; and three great-grandchildren, Tanner Nelson, Lindsay Nelson and Kolton Baker.
Funeral service is Thursday, May 12, 1 p.m. at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale with Pastors David Rittenhouse and Allen Johnson officiating. Interment will be in the Bethel Cemetery on Back Mountain Road in Durbin with Masonic Rites by the Riverside Lodge #124 AF & AM. Family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of service.
