The Pocahontas County High School Warriors hammered the Moorefield Yellow Jackets by a score of 82 to 61 last Thursday at Warrior Coliseum in Dunmore.
It is said that “speed kills,” and the PCHS boys had more than enough speed to overcome the taller Moorefield team.
Senior J.D. Hensler led the way with one of the best games of his career, scoring 32 points on 10-for-15 shooting, and grabbing 12 rebounds. Ryan Dilley also had an outstanding game pouring in 25 points.
Energy and quickness allowed the Warriors to jump to an early first quarter lead of 20 to 11. Team defense continued to confuse and harass the Jackets into several turnovers as the Warriors turned up the heat to coast into a 44-32 halftime score.
Junior Brady Jones contributed six points and six rebounds, while Danny Kimble (Jr) and Braxton Rider (Sr) had six and five rebounds respectively.
Team quickness continued to set the pace in the second half as the Warriors produced five blocks, seven deflections and had 13 steals.
For the game the Warriors connected on 46 percent of their shots making 25 out of 55. They also made five-of- 15 from beyond the arc for a 33 percent completion rate on three pointers as nine players made it into the scoring column.
There was a good crowd out for Senior Night and all the senior athletes and their parents were recognized before the game.
Next up, the Warriors take on the Tygarts Valley Bulldogs at PCHS Wednesday, February 3, at 7:30 p.m. followed by an away game with Tucker County at Parsons on Saturday, February 6.
